The City of Staunton is working through another round of annual paving through the month of October across several parts of the city.

Over the next three to four weeks, the streets listed below will be milled and repaved, causing some delays and road closures.

While streets are being repaved, parking will be limited.

Call the Staunton Public Works Department at 540.332.3892 with any questions or concerns.

Affected streets

  • Ellendin Avenue from Hudson Avenue to Audubon Street
  • Churchville Avenue from WB Englewood Drive to Englewood Drive
  • Grove Lane from Belmore Avenue to Stocker Street
  • Fairview Avenue from Donaghe Street to dead end
  • Mactanly Place from College Circle to North Augusta Street
  • South Brae Burn Place from Blue Ridge Drive to cul-de-sac
  • Tams Street from North Augusta to Prospect Street
  • West Frederick Street from North Augusta Street to Lewis Street
  • Greenville Avenue from New Street to just past Mill Street
  • Davis Street from Hoover Street to Bare Street

Impacts

The exact date, time, and sequence of work are unknown. It is difficult to set an exact schedule because timing is subject to change as a result of inclement weather conditions and operational delays. Cones will be placed along the streets before roadwork begins letting community members know a start date for that specific section of roadwork.

Drivers should use alternate routes and expect delays, detours and minor interruptions. Motorists are also encouraged to allow extra travel time in these areas and to be mindful of city workers and crews.

Streets are chosen for repaving based on a variety of factors, including their condition and how recently they have been paved. VDOT also rides with city employees along primary roads to further determine priority.

The city also coordinates closely with private utilities to prevent the paving of roads that are likely to be disturbed for utility work in the near future.

“Streets recently disturbed by Columbia Gas utility work will be given special consideration for the spring 2025 annual paving list. While all of these streets can’t be repaved by the city in one year, we are aware that some of these streets urgently require further attention,” said Director of Public Works Dave Irvin.

What Dolly Parton meant to me: She reached back to lift others up, not get more for herself

I didn’t want to just write a Dolly Parton tribute to get my share of clicks from folks looking for something informative about her passing. I have nothing informative to offer on Dolly Parton, who passed on Tuesday at the age of 80 – she didn’t look anywhere near 80, BTW. No, nothing informative here,...
