Augusta County issues evacuation recommendation, updates on road closures

Update: Friday, 8:10 p.m. Sandbag supplies are now available at the Wilson Fire Department located at 892 Mount Torrey Road in Lyndhurst.

Emergency services personnel are on-site and ready to assist you in picking up sandbags to help protect your property.

Update: Friday, 7:30 p.m. Jericho Road and Desper Hollow Road in Augusta County are currently closed due to high water levels.

The Augusta County Fire Department has responded to four separate incidents involving vehicles stranded in the water. These conditions pose significant danger to drivers and emergency personnel.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is advising drivers to find alternative routes and avoid these areas until further notice.


First report: Friday, 6:23 p.m. Augusta County has issued an immediate evacuation recommendation to residents in the Sherando, Creekside and Back Creeks areas.

“If you live in these areas, emergency services personnel is recommending that you and your families evacuate immediately for your safety,” a press release from the office of Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith reported.

The county has set up a shelter at the Wilson Fire Department, which is located at 892 Mount Torrey Road in Lyndhurst – phone: 540-949-8969.

Emergency personnel will be on site to assist.
