Virginia has now dropped two straight after getting out to an 8-0 start, falling at Klöckner Stadium on Sunday to #16 Notre Dame, 1-0.

UVA (8-2-0, 1-2-0 ACC) had nine of the game’s first 10 shots, but couldn’t get anything into the net for the second straight match.

Notre Dame (7-1-1, 1-0-1 ACC) scored two minutes into the second half when Grace Restovich played a through ball to Annabelle Chukwu on a run in behind the defense, and Chukwu pulled up nine yards out on the left side and sent the ball in across to the back corner for the score.

“We started off really well, but as the game wore on we lost our discipline and lost our quality. The things we were doing well in the first half left us a little bit,” UVA coach Steve Swanson said. “Credit to Notre Dame, but we’re also disappointed because we felt this was a missed opportunity. We’ve got plenty of opportunities ahead, but we have to play much more consistent and that’s the biggest thing to take away from this game.”
