The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department battled a massive structure fire early Friday morning.

According to an emailed media release from Stanley Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit, the incident occurred at approximately 12:42 a.m. at 1087 Judy Lane.

Firefighters were on the scene within six minutes. When they arrived, flames at one end of the house were clearly visible.

Six SVFD units and 17 crew members responded to the call, and it took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

A preliminary investigation showed that the blaze started in a bedroom ceiling and quickly spread into the attic.

The structure, owned by Gary Cubbage of Stanley, suffered approximately $100,000 in damage.
