A Barboursville man is in custody after being identified as a “suspicious person” on grounds at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville on Wednesday morning.

Daniel W. Sisk, 49, of Barboursville, was reportedly carrying a duffel bag inside the hospital, which presumably spooked people, prompting a call to 911.

Albemarle County Police arrived at the scene shortly before 11 a.m., and after a search of the nearby area, officers located Sisk and were able to take him into custody without incident.

Sisk has been charged with disorderly conduct, assault, impersonating public safety personnel, and possession, manufacture, distribution, etc. of a weapon of terrorism or hoax device.

He is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Albemarle County Police Department at 434-296-5807. For those who wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000 or [email protected].
