A hiking event sponsored by the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club and Virginia Forest Watch will give you a glimpse of a proposed 185-acre logging site that threatens the heart of the Root Run watershed.

The June 28 Tour de Cut will focus on the proposed Forest Service Marshall Run timber sale in the Beech Lick Knob Virginia mountain treasure area. The Forest Service has proposed an upgrade and extension of more than three miles of Forest Service Route 235A through the area.

Participants in the 6.5-mile hike are asked to bring water, a packable lunch, rain gear and sturdy hiking boots.

The hike will begin with a meet and greet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Shenandoah Valley Tourist Information Center in New Market. The plan is to be back at the meeting place by 4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

To participate, call Sherman Barnford at (540) 343-6359 or e-mail [email protected].
