Music promoters John Huggins and Steve Talley no doubt agree with Leon Redbone when he says, “The blues ain’t nothing but a good man feeling bad,” and they are hot on a quest to get more good blues men and women on the stage in the Staunton area.

They have teamed up to sponsor the first Shenandoah Valley Blues Festival at Oak Grove Theater in Verona on May 8, and Huggins is sponsoring a free preview of the festival at a kickoff event on Wednesday, April 28 at Shenandoah Pizza, 19 E. Beverley St., Staunton starting at 7 p.m.

The April 28 event features the Central Virginia Blues Society, a consortium of musicians that promote the playing and enjoyment of blues music in the area. Scheduled musicians are Lisa Miller, Marla Palma, Dan Dorsey and Wave Milor. More information on the Wednesday night showcase and the Blues Society can be found on the CVBS facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Central-Virginia-Blues-Society/159772183506?v=photos&ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=118627601487994&ref=mf

The Saturday, May 8 Shenandoah Valley Blues Festival will treat local music fans to a mix of Mississippi, Delta and Chicago Blues on two stages from noon until 11pm. Gates open at 11am. Blues jams, tailgating, food, drink and local vendors will round out the festivities, and attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments. Tickets for the all day event are $25 and can be purchased at Shenandoah Pizza in Downtown Staunton or online at www.shenblues.com.

For more information call Steve at 540.292.9701or John at 540.245.0609.
