WINNER: Bob Goodlatte has a boatload of money

Try $1.5 million cash on hand as of June 30, according to the Federal Election Commission. Which is, what, about 20 times the $80,000-plus that Democrat Sam Rasoul has at his disposal right now?

You get the feeling that if Rasoul gets close, Goodlatte can make like the Road-Runner from those old Looney Tunes and just zoom off into the distance.

WINNER: Barack Obama gaining traction in the Valley?

We had 20 people over last night for a Team Obama organizational meeting for Waynesboro.

Probably didn’t know there were 20 Democrats in Waynesboro, did you?

TODAY’S HOT OR NOT: Frontier justice

Not being critical here. Just wondering what could have happened had that melee over near Kate Collins Middle School had been any wilder than what Waynesboro Police Sgt. Kelly Walker described.

The strange thing to this story is that the victim in the incident had already called 911 once and talked with police officers before what turned out to be a second break-in an hour or so later.

That’s why it’s hard to be critical of what ensued. Again, not being critical here, but that woman is lucky to be alive, and from what it sounds, so are the two alleged perpetrators.

Lucky to be alive: Good Samaritan or something else? I’ll always wonder

My dog, Griff, could have saved my life today. The truth is I’ll probably never know for sure. Despite writing about abductions and murders, I ignored my intuition and pulled over when a man insisted something was wrong with my tire.
