Creating the healthiest Virginia: For science, for action, for health.

healthcareDuring the first full week of April, the American Public Health Association brings together communities nationwide to observe National Public Health Week (www.NPHW.org).

In Virginia, the Virginia Department of Health dedicates this week to recognizing the contributions of public health professionals and highlighting issues that are important to improving the health of our state and nation.

“Everyone deserves a chance to live a healthy life, and we can all work together to make that happen in our own communities where we live, work and play,” said State Health Commissioner M. Norman Oliver, MD, MA. “During National Public Health Week and throughout the year, Virginia’s Plan for Well-Being serves as a call to action to create and sustain conditions that support health and well-being for all people in Virginia. Together we can make Virginia the healthiest state in the nation.”

Join VDH in celebrating its work towards “Creating the Healthiest State. For science. For action. For health.” VDH will be focusing on these daily themes with information and activities:

  • Monday, April 1 – Healthy Communities
  • Tuesday, April 2 – Violence Prevention
  • Wednesday, April 3 – Rural Health
  • Thursday, April 4 – Technology and Public Health
  • Friday, April 5 – Climate Change

In addition, throughout the week, Virginia Department of Health divisions, districts, departments and offices across the state will also be taking the time to thank its partners in promoting public health outside of VDH as “Public Health Heroes.”
