Ben Cline wraps up Sixth District walking tour in Front Royal

ben clineSixth District Republican congressional nominee Ben Cline will complete his “Walk Across the Sixth,” a walk of more than three months and 200 miles across the district, on Thursday in Front Royal.

The tour began on May 31 in Amherst.

“Back in May, I made a commitment to the voters that I would spend the summer walking across the Sixth District, listening to their views and learning about the issues that are important to them,” Cline said. “This Thursday, I am fulfilling that commitment after walking more than 200 miles, visiting nearly two-dozen counties, cities, and towns, and meeting thousands of voters along the way. After hearing from the voters, I have a better understanding of the priorities and concerns that they want addressed in Washington, and I will be proud to fight for them as the voice of the people for the Sixth Congressional District.”

Cline grew up in Rockbridge County and worked for Congressman Bob Goodlatte for several years, ultimately serving as his chief of staff. Following law school, Ben worked as an assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. He is an attorney in private practice with law offices in Amherst, Lexington, and Harrisonburg. He has also served the people of Amherst, Rockbridge, Augusta, and Bath Counties as their representative in the House of Delegates since 2002.

Cline will have walked this summer from Amherst County, south to Lynchburg, west through Bedford County, Roanoke County, and Roanoke City, and north through Botetourt County, Rockbridge, Lexington City, Augusta County, Staunton City, Rockingham County, Harrisonburg City, Shenandoah County, and Warren County.

“From Amherst to Front Royal, people across the Sixth spoke with pride about their communities, told important stories about their local histories, and provided their unvarnished opinions on the challenges they and their neighbors face every day,” Cline said. “I’ve heard repeatedly, whether in barbershops, in factories, or on farms across the district, that the people of the Sixth District want someone who represents their tightly-knit community’s values of a less intrusive, fiscally responsible government.

“They want a representative who understands that one-size-fits-all solutions might work for New York, San Francisco, or even Northern Virginia, but they won’t necessarily work for the communities of the Shenandoah and Roanoke valleys or the cities and towns in foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If elected, I’m committed to being that voice in Washington for them.”
