The Augusta County Library is accepting registrations for a workshop series on Chronic Disease Self-Management that will be held at the Fishersville Library from 1:30-4 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 13–Oct. 18.
The free series will give adults living with ongoing health conditions and their caregivers tools to improve and manage their health. The program is based on a curriculum developed by Stanford University and is coordinated by the Valley Program for Aging Services with funding from Augusta Health.
The workshops are targeted at individuals dealing with lasting conditions that can be controlled, but not cured such as arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety, chronic pain or heart disease. Session leaders will work with participants to help solve problems and overcome barriers.
Each interactive workshop session will include five to eight activities. Topics covered will include healthy eating, pain and fatigue management, getting a good night’s sleep, preventing falls, medication, working with health providers, and dealing with emotions. Each participant will receive a complimentary copy of the book, Living a Healthy Live with Chronic Conditions.
