A Jace Peterson homer gave Atlanta a 7-6 walk-off, extra-inning win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
The Nats (73-50) had a 6-3 lead in the sixth, but starter Gio Gonzalez and the bullpen couldn’t keep the last-place Braves (45-79) at bay.
Gonzalez (8-9, 4.30 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) got a no-decision for his work, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits in five and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking three.
Yusmeiro Petit (3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) gave up a leadoff homer to Matt Kemp in the eighth, and Atlanta then loaded the bases with nobody out before a lengthy rain delay.
Blake Treinen (1.87 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) induced a double play grounder out of Gordon Beckham that tied the score at 6-6.
Shawn Kelley (1-2, 2.72 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) gave up the two-out homer to Peterson to end it.
Bryce Harper (.246/.386/.459, 22 HR, 68 RBI) had a three-run homer and was 2-for-5 on the day. In eight games since returning from a five-game break to rest a stiff neck, Harper is hitting .400/.526/.553 with two homers and 11 RBI.
