Culpeper District: Frays Mill Road bridge to close June 13-17

Chris Graham

vdot logoFor one week beginning June 13, the Route 641 (Frays Mill Road) bridge over Marsh Run in Albemarle County will be closed while a crew with the Virginia Department of Transportation replaces the existing timber deck.

The 73-year-old bridge is located just east of Route 743 (Advance Mills Road). During the closure, eastbound traffic should follow Route 743 north to Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road), and then right on Route 29, and then right on Route 606 (Frays Mill Road) to reach Route 641. Westbound traffic will reverse the detour. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic June 17.

The bridge is currently posted with a 12-ton weight limit and carries more than 350 vehicles daily, according to a 2014 traffic count. To minimize disruptions to the traveling public, a VDOT contractor will perform preliminary field work for future replacement of the bridge during the deck replacement work.

Message boards will be in place to notify the public of the closure and any weather-related schedule adjustments.
