Science Talks lecture: Virginia’s Mammals

Chris Graham

virginia's mammalsDr. Nancy Moncrief presents the monthly Science Talks lecture at the Wayne Theatre titled “Virginia’s Mammals: More than Deer and Squirrels” on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m.

Admission is Pay What You Will. No advance tickets are required.

Moncrief, Curator of Mammalogy at the Virginia Museum of Natural History, will share information about Virginia’s native land mammals. These includes animals (such as deer, squirrels, and raccoons) that are familiar to us all, as well as some (including the least shrew and the white-footed mouse) most people have never heard of, although they may have seen them.

Moncrief will provide details about the seven major groups of mammals that live in the state and talk about methods used to study these often-elusive creatures. She’ll also talk about threats to future survivals of some of Virginia’s native mammals and what we can all do to lessen those threats.

The Wayne Theatre is located at 521 W. Main St. in downtown Waynesboro.

For more information, call (540) 943-9999.
