VMI catcher Peyton Maddox earned a pair of honors Monday, as he was named one of Collegiate Baseball’s Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week and also earned SoCon Player of the Week honors.
Maddox hit .688 with four home runs on the week, double the number of career long balls he came into the week with (two). Included in his week’s efforts was Friday’s two-homer game, the first of his career, and a career-high five RBI effort that also came Friday. He was retired only five times all week and had 20 total bases in 16 at-bats, as he finished the week 11 for 16 with seven runs scored and nine RBI.
Maddox is the first Keydet to earn SoCon Player of the Week honors since 2001. Monday’s honor, however, marks the third consecutive season that the Keydets have had a player earn National Player of the Week honors. Current volunteer assistant Thomas Stallings was the last to accomplish the feat.
VMI baseball will return to action Tuesday, when the Keydets play host to VCU at 6 p.m.
