Chris Dillow of Waynesboro rang up a four-day total of 20 bass weighing 62 pounds to win the Stren Series Northern Division tournament in Marbury, Md., last week.
The victory earned Dillow $28,000.
Dillow had come to the event on the Potomac River on the waiting list. He wasn’t able to get any practice in for the tournament, and had only fished the Potomac a few times in his life before the tourney.
“I knew that I would win this tournament. I had a gut feeling about this tournament,” said Dillow, a fishing pro. “I was basically just relaxed, had fun and went fishing, and I think that’s what paid off for me. I wasn’t stressed out or in a hurry.”
Dillow took the top prize with a five-bass limit of 16 pounds, 9 ounces in the final day of the competition on Oct. 18. He had earned his way into the top ten a day earlier with a five-bass limit of 15 pounds after opening with rounds of 19 pounds, 6 ounces and 11 pounds, 1 ounce the first two days.
