Jake Huggins is leading the VMI offense with a .348 batting average and 12 runs and 16 RBI. The senior first-baseman has cracked three home runs in 16 games and also has a .530 slugging and .421 on-base percentages. Noah Cook (.333 avg., .455 OBP) and Don Goodes (.294/.400) have hit well in semi-regular roles and Will Knight has a .286 batting average and is just one of three Keydets to start all 16 games.

The potential VMI rotation of Jacob Menders, Adam Jewell and Zak Kent has thrown well early this year. Menders leads the team with a 2.42 ERA in four starts and has a 1-1 record. Jewell’s ERA is 3.00 and has struck out 24 batters in 21 innings. Kent struck out 13 batters in his last outing against Binghamton and has 31 strikeouts in his 23 2/3 innings. Batters have hit only .214 vs. Menders, .203 against Jewell and .207 vs. Kent.

The young Keydets have a 3-13 record on the season, but have dropped four one-run games (including the last two) and three two-run contests.

Lehigh and VMI have only met once in baseball, with Lehigh winning 13-5 in 1984. Ryan Malloy has a .450 batting average for the Mountain Hawks (4-7) with an .850 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage.
