VMI head basketball coach Duggar Baucom announced the signings of forward Jordan Weethee and center Jarid Watson to the 2011 recruiting class.

Weethee, a 6’6, 210 forward from High Point Christian Academy in Greensboro, N.C., averaged 17.9 points per game in 2010-11 with 9.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He also scored a career-high 36 points and also made nine three-pointers in one game against Charlotte Christian during the past season. He completed his high school career with over 1,500 points and 75 three-point goals. Weethee played for Coach Brandon Clifford and help his team to 18 wins.

“Jordan is an excellent perimeter shooter who can extend defenses,” said Baucom. “He also has great strength which will also allow him to finish at the rim.”

Watson, 6’8, 205 center from Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Md., averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 points and averaged 3.0 blocks per game as a senior. Watson scored in double figures in 12 games in 2010-11 and twice scored a season-high 18 points on a team that posted 22 wins. His high school team won two 3A Maryland State Championships during his 3-year varsity career. He also played AAU basketball with current Keydet point guard Rodney Glasgow.

“Jarid has great length and excellent timing which allows him to change shots at the rim, said Baucom. “He can also face up and make shots out to 17 feet.”

Added Baucom, “We are really excited to add Jordan and Jarid to our VMI basketball family. They both played for excellent high school coaches and both have the skill sets and size to come in and contribute their first year. These two spring signings, combined with early signees Quinton Upshur and Brian Brown, make this an excellent class. All of these young men have the character, class and talent to excel as cadet-athletes.”
