Former Cavalier rower Jenny Shultis has been named an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Virginia athletics. Shultis, a native of Lexington, Va., has served as a graduate assistant in the UVa strength and conditioning department since the fall of 2012.

James Madison University has announced the hiring of Richard Long to serve as the head coach of the Dukes’ swimming and diving program. Long, a native of Hampton, Va., comes to JMU from Auburn University where he served as an assistant coach for seven years.

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on Thursday released his platform to strengthen public safety in the Commonwealth. McAuliffe’s plan, “Safer Communities, Safer Families,” includes cracking down on drunk driving, domestic violence, and other threats to Virginians, as well as fiscally responsible measures to support Virginia’s first responders and public safety officials.

Virginia voters are divided 42-41 percent on whether Gov. Bob McDonnell is honest and trustworthy, compared to a July 17 survey when voters said 44-36 percent he was honest, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
