The Blue Ridge Soap Box Derby Classic is supporting a local Fall Rally Weekend to be held in Stuarts Draft, Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. The Fall Rally Weekend will feature four Rally Races with three classes. Two Rally Races will be held on Saturday and another two on Sunday.

The employment situation in Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley is looking a bit better. The situation nationally – not so much. The national unemployment rate inched up from 9.7 percent in August to 9.8 percent in September, according to a report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Citing issues with fairness, Steve Landes is backing out of a debate invitation from the News Leader and WHSV-TV3 with 25th District challenger Greg Marrow. “I’ve expressed my concerns of the editorial board – not being fair and balanced – moderating a debate between my opponent and me,” Landes told the News Leader on Thursday.
