An additional $3 million in TV, radio, print and online ad buys will push the total marketing commitment of the Tim Kaine Senate campaign to $7.5 million. The Kaine campaign announced the additional buys Tuesday and attributed the extra money in the budget to substantial growth in its donor base. The campaign has now received donations from more than 40,000 individuals, with more than 10,000 of those donors contributing money to the campaign for the first time in the past six weeks.

An Augusta County house fire claimed the life of a young boy Sunday morning. The cause and origin remain under investigation, which is being conducted by Virginia State Police Special Agent B.N. Webster of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office.

It would seem at first glance that the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan event scheduled for Thursday at Augusta Expoland in Fishersville would be so much overkill given the recent voting history in Greater Augusta. Barack Obama, en route to winning Virginia in the 2008 presidential election, was roundly trounced in Greater Augusta (Augusta County and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro) by Republican nominee John McCain. McCain won the region with 62 percent of the vote, with Obama trailing far behind with 37 percent.
