Every February, people all over the globe take to their backyards to participate in one of the world’s largest citizen science projects – the Great Backyard Bird Count.

Black bear sows have been documented giving birth in Virginia from Dec. 19 to Feb. 22 – with a median date of Jan. 17. It’s become a Wildlife Center of Virginia tradition to celebrate the bears’ birthdays on this day.

Staff at the Wildlife Center of Virginia are getting ready for a Thanksgiving feast for over 100 guests, including red-tailed hawks, Eastern screech owls, bald eagles, black bears, and deer mice.
