One Book One Community is returning to the Staunton-Augusta County-Waynesboro area. This cooperative venture is designed to bring the community together through the experience of reading the same book.

This summer more than 325 elementary kids and teens at the Boys & Girls Club enjoyed a schedule jam-packed with activities and trips to keep them on the go.

After a month-long vote, the community has spoken. With over 360 ballots cast in person at area libraries and online, the clear winner for 2013’s One Book One Community selection is Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. Bryson’s book brought in 33% of the votes and edged out four others to become the 2013 selection.

The City of Waynesboro will receive over $10,000 in federal grant funds to help upgrade its 10-member bicycle patrol team.
