U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Armed Services Committee, pressed top United States Air Force officials in a hearing today on the issue of sexual assault in the military including the arrest of Lt. Col. Jeffrey Krusinski, chief of the Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention and Response branch, on charges of sexual battery in Arlington, Virginia. In his questioning, Kaine expressed his concern over the signal these news accounts send to current and future servicemembers, noting his recent visit with female cadets at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton.
The Virginia women’s lacrosse team earned its 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, securing an at-large berth in the 26-team Championship field. The Cavaliers (9-9) will open the tournament by taking on Penn (11-5) on Friday, May 10 at 3 pm in a first-round game in Washington, D.C.

Virginia voters know little about the two candidates for governor, according to a new Washington Post poll looking at the Ken Cuccinelli-Terry McAuliffe race. Cuccinelli, the Republican attorney general, has a 51 percent-to-41 percent lead over McAuliffe, the Democratic nominee, among likely voters, according to the Post poll. The defining numbers in the poll aren’t there, though, but rather in the limited information on the candidates among the voter base and the limited interest in the race in general among state residents.
The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the VDOT Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. A Manassas woman was sentenced today to 18 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for illegally buying and selling more than 31 handguns in 15 days without a license. Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Neil MacBride; and Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives’ (ATF) Washington Field Division Carl Vasilko made the announcement today after Kimberly Yvette Dinkins, 44, was sentenced by United States District Judge Claude M. Hilton.
U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., was in Waynesboro on Thursday to meet with city leaders to discuss economic development in Waynesboro.
