Virginia State Police answering thousands of calls due to snow

From 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12) through 4 p.m. Thursday (Feb.13), Virginia State Police state police emergency dispatch centers fielded 4,052 calls for service. During that same 12-hour period, state troopers responded to 1,095 traffic crashes and 1,115 disabled vehicles across the Commonwealth.

Virginia State Police: 20 traffic deaths over the holidays

Preliminary reports from the Virginia State Police indicate that 20 individuals lost their lives in 19 separate traffic crashes over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Virginia. In 2012, a total of 16 people died in traffic crashes during each of the four-day holiday statistical counting periods.

Virginia State Police emphasize New Year’s Eve holiday safety

Virginia State Police will be stepping up patrols New Year’s Eve in an effort to detect and deter impaired drivers on Virginia’s highways. Since Thanksgiving, troopers have been participating in the annual Checkpoint Strikeforce anti-DUI enforcement campaign and the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday crackdown.

Change in command at Virginia State Police field-ops bureau

Effective Dec. 25, Virginia State Police Maj. George L. Daniels Jr., was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and appointed bureau director of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Field Operations. Daniels takes the place of retiring Lt. Col. Eugene A. Stockton, who has served as the BFO bureau director for the past decade.
