Church spearheads effort to open new Verona Community Center

The Verona community has never had its own community center. That is about to change thanks to an effort spearheaded by Verona United Methodist Church. If all goes according to the church’s vision, an 8,200-square-foot former grocery store on Rt. 11 in Verona will be converted to a community center providing space for community and area church activities.

If you’re black, you may have trouble getting on to a jury. The way in which jurors are chosen in the United States is intended to ensure an unbiased jury; and part of that process is the right of “peremptory challenge,” by which the prosecution and the defense are each allowed to reject a certain number of potential jurors without having to prove them unfit.

Federal and state officials received hands-on experience Monday with “hands-off” automated and connected driving as they traveled a 10-mile stretch of an interstate highway in Northern Virginia in cars sporting the latest automated- and connected-vehicle technology.
