Since coming to Congress, my top priority has been promoting job growth. As we look back at 2013 and we begin the New Year and the second session of the 113th Congress, I am encouraged by the progress my colleagues in the House and I have made in this effort.

Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announced additional appointments to his administration today, including the appointment of Carlos Hopkins as Counsel to the Governor and additional appointments to the Governor’s Office and Cabinet. The appointees will join McAuliffe’s administration focused on finding common ground with members of both parties on issues that will grow Virginia’s economy and create more jobs across the Commonwealth.

Friends of Mark Warner, the 2014 campaign of U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner of Virginia, announced its year-end fundraising numbers today. During the fourth quarter of 2013, the campaign received contributions totaling nearly $1.6 million. Friends of Mark Warner ended 2013 with more than $7.1 million cash-on-hand.

The 30th annual Republican Advance was this weekend and I have to tell you: the future of the Republican Party in Virginia is bright. At the dinner last night, I shared, first and foremost, my gratitude for the many hundreds of dedicated Virginians who began doing the hard work of the canvass scarcely twelve hours after the polls closed on Election Night.

Earlier this month, an alarm about Virginia’s razor-close Attorney General’s race sounded in some Democratic circles. Adam Swerver, in an article posted on the MSNBC website, declared that even if the defeat of Republican candidate Mark Obenshain is confirmed in a recount, he might still be able to have himself declared the winner.

On Wednesday, Speaker of the House John Boehner said the House had no intention of passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill this year. “Speaker Boehner is going back on his word,” said Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook.
