Bob McDonnell announced the recipients of the Governor’s Public Service Awards at a ceremony today at the Executive Mansion including the winner of the second annual “30 Day Sprint” competition honoring the best innovation idea from a state employee. The Governor’s Public Service Awards highlight state employees who have shown an exemplary degree of service and dedication to the Commonwealth of Virginia

Big South officially welcomes Longwood as new member

The Big South Conference today officially welcomes Longwood University as a member of the Conference, pushing the Big South membership to 12 institutions for the first time in League history. Longwood joins the Big South following five years as a Division I independent and is immediately eligible for all Big South championships and honors upon its entry

The Pelicans finished out the series with a 5-1 victory against the Hillcats. Myrtle Beach was led by Kyle Hendricks complete game performance. Leading the offense for the Pelicans was Christian Villanueva. The storyline for the Hillcats was Tommy La Stella leaving the game after being drilled in the right ear by a Hendricks fastball

Earth Talk: Making renewable energies competitive

Given the importance of abundant amounts of energy for Americans, the federal government tends to subsidize all forms of energy development, including fossil fuels and renewables. A recently released report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that in 2011 the federal government spent $16 billion of our tax dollars in subsidies for the development of renewable energy and increased energy efficiency, and only $2.5 billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry in the form of tax breaks
