The Northern Virginia Business Political Action Committee (NOVABizPAC), the political action committee of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber), announced its endorsements for Virginia’s statewide races on Thursday.

Despite multiple major newspapers calling for my inclusion in debates, I was not invited to participate, and Virginia voters missed an opportunity to have a truly useful forum where real solutions were discussed.

Four well-known leaders from Northern Virginia endorsed Terry McAuliffe for governor this week, citing his commitment to finding mainstream, bipartisan solutions to growing and diversifying Virginia’s economy.

I have always maintained that the poor in Northern Virginia are worse off than others living in less affluent parts of the state because the cost of living is higher in this region. The difference can be seen most clearly in the cost of housing; and there have been many notable efforts on the part of local governments to increase the stock of workforce, affordable housing. The traffic coming into Northern Virginia from the west and south is made up largely of people who cannot afford housing in the area.

Over the next couple of decades Virginia will have many more job openings for educated professionals and skilled technicians than there are persons in the pipeline to fill them, according to Northern Virginia Community College President Robert Templin speaking at “Blueprint Virginia,” an annual economic summit in Northern Virginia last week.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine today visited Oracle, a global technology company in Reston, to meet with leaders of the Northern Virginia technology corridor and discuss his efforts to help their businesses grow and thrive, including a comprehensive solution to the nation’s broken immigration system.
