As the last holiday weekend of the summer season approaches, motorists traveling through the Commonwealth this Labor Day weekend can expect to see significant increased enforcement by the Virginia State Police.

As Virginians prepare to celebrate our nation’s independence, the Virginia State Police encourages everyone to include traffic safety as an integral part of their preparations and activities.

Six state police and highway patrol agencies this weekend will once again engage in Operation Border to Border, a coordinated traffic safety enforcement initiative targeting approximately 791 miles of U.S. Route 15, which originates in Waterboro, S.C., and ends in Corning, N.Y.

The Drive to Save Lives campaign is a united effort by state police and highway patrol leaders, police chiefs and sheriffs to reduce highway crashes and fatalities.

Virginia State Police will be stepping up patrols New Year’s Eve in an effort to detect and deter impaired drivers on Virginia’s highways. Since Thanksgiving, troopers have been participating in the annual Checkpoint Strikeforce anti-DUI enforcement campaign and the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday crackdown.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will carry out a statewide mowing blitz through Tuesday, July 2nd to make traveling on Virginia roadways as safe and inviting as possible over the Fourth of July holiday.
