Gas prices continue to climb, with the busy Memorial Day weekend just one week away. The national average price of gasoline (through Friday) had increased for 29 of the previous 32 days to $2.69 per gallon. Drivers are paying three cents more per gallon than one week ago and 30 cents more per gallon than one month ago.

The Waynesboro Police Department has charged a local man after an he abducted, abused and sexually assaulted a family member Tuesday night. Ronald Issiah Burton, 30, is in custody and is accused of putting a 30-year-old Waynesboro woman through an eight hour ordeal of rape and assault at a residence in the 900 block of Shenandoah Avenue.

Motorists will notice a new traffic pattern at the intersection of the John W. Warner Parkway and Route 631 (East Rio Road) in Albemarle County. On April 29, the Virginia Department of Transportation modified the pavement markings so the parkway’s northbound right-turn lane will now operate as a shared right-through lane.

The UVA baseball team completes the regular season Thursday through Saturday with a three-game ACC series at North Carolina. Play begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill and continues at 6:30 p.m. Friday and noon Sunday.
