The No. 9 Virginia field hockey team opened the 2015 season Friday (Aug. 28) with a 6-0 victory over Drexel at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

The No. 2 Virginia men’s soccer team kicks off its 2015 season at 7 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 29) when No. 17 Charlotte comes to Klöckner Stadium. The early showdown of top-20 sides pits a pair of programs that were seeded in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

The Waynesboro School Board is trying to cast the need for a new $76 million Waynesboro High School in economic development terms. A new school, board members have argued, will help attract new business to Waynesboro, and even if it’s just a sales pitch, it’s a sales pitch based on a valid point, when you consider how decisions are made about locating a new development project somewhere.

The United Nations of Comedy Tour returns to The Paramount Theater on Saturday, November 14. The tour brings national comedians as seen on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Ellen, NBC’s Stand Up for Diversity, Comedy Central, Comic View, TV shows, commercials and movies.

At 7:38 a.m., Tuesday (Aug. 25), Virginia State Police Trooper M.C. Brill responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus. The crash occurred in the 2400 block of Hankey Mountain Highway/Route 250 in the Churchville community.
