augusta-county2editsElizabeth Creamer, advisor for workforce development to Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, will speak at the July 1 ceremony celebrating the new name for the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center.

The historic center, located in Augusta County, was founded in 1947. Earlier this year, Gov. McAuliffe signed legislation to change the center’s name to the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center, effective July 1.

“Business, industry, our community partners, and, most importantly, our consumers have offered a resounding endorsement for the new name,” said WWRC Director Rick Sizemore. “Adding the word ‘workforce’ to our name really helps those we serve to identify with our mission of helping develop employment readiness. Keeping the word ‘rehabilitation’ in our name ensures we are known for the comprehensive medical therapies we provide to help individuals with disabilities return to work.”

WWRC will unveil signage for the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center following Creamer’s remarks in the center’s Garden of Hope at 9:30 a.m.,July 1.

Creamer was appointed by Gov. McAuliffe as advisor for workforce development. In her role, she serves as a liaison to four secretariats, eight state agencies and 24 state- and federally-funded programs charged with administration of Virginia’s Workforce System, and helps staff the Virginia Board of Workforce Development.

She previously served as director of education and workforce development for the Commonwealth and was assistant vice chancellor of career pathways and workforce development for the Virginia Community College System.

WWRC hosted the workforce development board’s April meeting, at which representatives from The Hershey Co. discussed how WWRC and the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services enabled the confectioner’s expansion of its “Hershey Extends Real Opportunities to Succeed” program to its Stuarts Draft plant.
