A new Shenandoah Valley web portal is debuting a video series highlighting life along the Great Valley Road.
“We had been planning to launch ShenandoahValley.com as a Web site during the summer of 2007 when we got the idea to include Road Trip to History video,” said Hank Zimmerman, the owner and operator of ShenandoahValley.com, which will debut the Internet version of the “Road Trip to History” series featuring the Valley on Saturday.
The series, produced by Wayne Bronson, is a look at Valley history through the prism of the Valley Road, which more or less runs along the path taken by today’s U.S. 11.
The series initially debuted on RFD-TV in 2006 and is currently being broadcast on WVPT-Virginia’s Public Television in Harrisonburg and public-television stations in Charlottesville and Richmond.
“It’s an important program to everyone, particularly to people who live in the area,” Bronson said. “There’s a lot of Valley lore you don’t find in other publications.”
” ‘Road Trip to History’ programs provide good information for people who are planning to tour the Shenandoah Valley, but they also go farther than that. After watching the program you get a feeling you already know the local folks – even before you’ve actually traveled here,” Zimmerman said.
