Waynesboro Senior Center Weekly Report

The Center is hosting a special four-session Senior Nutrition Series in July. It will be held on Fridays, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. starting July 8th. Kaye Stiltner from Virginia Cooperative Extension and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank will lead the talks. Topics to be covered include:

·Food Safety
·Cut the Fat
·Eating Out
·Portion Sizes
·Stretching Food Dollars

This program is free and open to the public.

Schedule Changes

The Center will be closed on Monday for the July 4th Holiday. There will be no Meals on Wheels delivered that day. On Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7, the Center will be closing early (at 12:30p.m.) while the members go out for local trips. On Wednesday, we’re taking a shopping trip to the Cheese Shop in Stuarts Draft. On Thursday we’ll be going to visit the residents at Avante Nursing and Rehab, where one of our members will lead a sing-a-long.

Weekly Menu

MONDAY: Closed for Holiday
TUESDAY: Baked fish, potato fingers, greens, pears
WEDNESDAY: Breaded chicken breast, macaroni and cheese, peas and carrots, mandarin oranges
THURSDAY: Bbq pork, baked beans, calico coleslaw, fruit cocktail
FRIDAY: Beef piccata, diced potato, green beans, fruit

Lunch is served at 11:45 a.m. each day. All meals are served with milk and bread and provide one-third of the daily nutrition value required for adults. Call 942-1838 to make reservations by 10 a.m. on the day you plan to attend.

Waynesboro Senior Center

The Waynesboro Senior Center, sponsored by Valley Program for Aging Services, invites people 60 years of age and older to participate in a variety of programs to be offered in the coming week. The center, at 325 Pine Ave., in the Jackson-Wilson building, is open 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Transportation is provided as needed by a VPAS van driver, who also helps with shopping trips and appointments to local doctors. Contributions toward expenses are accepted.
