Waynesboro Police: Beware of bears

Chris Graham

waynesboro2editsHave you seen a bear lately? Seems like they’re all over the place? You’re not alone in thinking that.

The Waynesboro emergency operations center has received a high number of calls related to bear sightings over the past several weeks, according to a press release from the Waynesboro Police Department on Thursday.

Bears, being bears, are doing bear-like things including getting into trash, climbing trees and in one case attempting to enter a city residence.

No reason to be alarmed, police say. The city’s proximity to the natural habitat of bears is at least partly to blame.

The press release wanted local media to highlight a link to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website for tips on minimizing the likelihood of human/bear confrontations.
