Waynesboro PD warns of phony police fundraising scam

Chris Graham

An organization calling itself the Police Protection Fund conducting phone solicitations in the Waynesboro area has no ties to the Waynesboro Police Department and does not have permission to use the department’s name in its solicitations.

A press release from the department issued Thursday warned local residents of the calls and advised that the city PD does not authorize any group or organization to ask for donations or conduct fundraising in any way on its behalf.

Anyone who has questions regarding possible phone scams is asked to contact the Crime Prevention office at 540.942.6683.
