Michael Woodard always enjoyed a challenge, his father, Mario, said. So he would probably get a kick out of seeing Dad take on the challenge that he has out in front of him next week.

“The whole idea for this ride was to plant a seed in Michael’s name through this event to see how much money might be made for Fishburne,” said Mario Woodard, who will embark on Michael’s Ride, a 100-mile bike ride beginning in Waynesboro and ending in Richmond that will raise money for Michael’s alma mater, Fishburne Military School.

Michael Woodard died in an automobile accident in April near Morgantown where he was going to school at West Virginia University.

Money raised in Michael’s Ride will go toward the Fishburne Military School Tuition Assistance Fund.

“My son always enjoyed a challenge, and building up this event will be a challenge,” Mario Woodard said. “I would like to see it occur yearly. I would like to see if this seed will grow. And I think it will. Hopefully next year more cyclists will hear about this and join in.”

The ride will take place next Monday. If you wish to contribute, you can write a check out to Fishburne Military School, specifying “Michael’s Ride” in the note section of the check, and send it to Fishburne Military School, c/o Mrs. Debbie Todd, 225 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, Va. 22980.

One hundred percent of the contributions will go to Fishburne Military School.
