Interstates and primaries in decent shape; secondaries not so much

Staff Report

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting this morning that most interstate and primary roads are passable and in minor to moderate condition in the Shenandoah Valley. Motorists should drive with caution as icy patches may exist in areas.

Operations are concluding on interstates and crews are focusing on primary roads. Most secondary roads have been treated and plows will go back as needed.

Over the weekend some procedures were delayed due to abandoned vehicles left on roads and shoulders in the Valley. Crews worked to remove them in order to proceed with snow removal operations in those sections.

Monday Midmorning conditions:
– Interstate 64: Moderate conditions in Augusta County from the I-81 interchange to exit 94. Moderate conditions in Rockbridge County.
– Interstate 81: Minor conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta and Rockingham.
– Primary roads: Moderate conditions in Augusta. Minor conditions in Rockbridge and Rockingham.
– Secondary roads: Severe conditions in Rockbridge. Moderate conditions in Augusta and Rockingham.
