At its June 15 meeting, the Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded two projects in the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District. The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
A Turnkey Asset Maintenance Services (TAMS) contract valued at $14.7 million was awarded to DBI Services of Hazelton, Pa. for interstate roadway management and performance of ordinary and preventive maintenance on right-of-way assets. The contract covers Interstate 81 from mile marker 173.92 at the Rockbridge/Botetourt county line to mile marker 237.51 at the Augusta/Rockingham County line. It also covers Interstate 64 from mile marker 0 at the West Virginia border to mile marker 57.22 at the to I-81 interchange with I-64 at exit 56. Included in the contract are emergency response and severe weather services; operations, safety management and traffic control services; customer, incidental and third party claims services. The contract does not include not include snow and ice response. The total lane-miles for this contract are 502.56 miles, which includes 120.8 center-lane miles. The five-year contract commencement date is Aug. 1, 2011. The contract has two two-year renewal options.
A $4.3 million regional guardrail contract serving both the VDOT Staunton and Culpeper Districts was awarded to MAKCO, Inc. of Troy. The contract work includes installing and upgrading guardrail along various interstate, primary and secondary road locations. The completion date is December 31, 2012.
Awarded on June 24 by the VDOT Commissioner is a contract valued at $444,962.65 to B & S Contracting Inc. of Staunton for a Rural Rustic Road paving project on Route 716 (West Augusta Road) from Route 629 (Deerfield Valley Road) to Route 250 (Hanky Mountain Highway) in the George Washington National Forest in Augusta County. All work will be done within the existing 30-foot right-of-way. The section of Route 716 to be improved is currently 2.4 miles of unstabilized road with a traffic count of 90 vehicles per day. The completion date is Nov. 30, 2011.
