UVA tennis: Collins to face Rodina In U.S. Open Monday

danielle collins uva tennis 2016Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), a two-time NCAA champion and former member of the UVA women’s tennis program, will face Evgeniya Rodina of Russia in first-round action at the 2016 U.S. Open, it was announced on Saturday.

Opening round play begins on Monday (Aug. 29). The morning session begins at 11 a.m. ET and the evening session begins at 7 p.m. ET.

Collins earned a wild card bid to the Grand Slam event by virtue of winning the 2016 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship in May. It marked the second NCAA championship in three seasons for Collins.

The winner of the first-round matchup between Collins and Rodina will advance to face the winner of a first-round match between Magda Linette of Poland and Dominika Cibulkova, who is seeded 12th.
