They keep cranking out the various from the dozens of preseason watch lists, which is helping the PR folks at UVA Football keep the program in front of people’s attention as we get closer to the season opener.
The watch list news today: QB Chandler Morris is on the watch lists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, defensive back Antonio Clary is on the Comeback Player of the Year watch list, and wideout Jahmal Edrine is in the Senior Bowl Top 300.
The Unitas Award is presented annually to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback who is on track to graduate with their class, which Morris, a grad student, is overqualified for – he’s been in college as long as John Blutarski.
The Campbell Award recognizes the nation’s top offensive player from the state of Texas or currently plays for D1 institution in Texas.
Morris, who amassed 3,774 passing yards and 31 TDs last year at North Texas, has also been named to the Maxwell Award and Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch lists.
Clary, who is even older than Morris – Clary started college way, way back in 2019, Morris in 2020 – keeps trying to finish out his college career healthy.
Last year was his first stab at wrapping things up, after he missed all of 2023, his first grad-senior season, due to an ankle injury.
Things were going great for him in 2024 – prior to going out with another injury, this one to a knee, Clary averaged 10.3 tackles per game, good for second in the ACC and 11th among all FBS players.
Edrine, a grad transfer most recently from Purdue, is one of 42 ACC players to be named to the first-ever Senior Bowl Top 300 List.
Last season, Edrine averaged 15.9 yards per reception, the seventh highest among all Big Ten players. He finished second on Purdue’s 2024 squad in receiving yards (365) and third in receptions (23).
In 2022 at Florida Atlantic, Edrine hauled in 39 receptions, including six TD catches, for 570 yards.
