UVA alum Tyler Wilson comes up short in first MLB start

lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesBaltimore rallied for two in the ninth, but it was too little, too late, for the Orioles in a 3-2 loss in the first game of a doubleheader with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday at Camden Yards.

The game was scoreless until the sixth, when the Sox got on the board on a Melky Cabrera RBI double and an Adam LaRoche RBI double. Up 2-0 in the ninth, Chicago added what turned into a very important insurance run on a Tyler Flowers RBI groundout to go up 3-0.

A Chris Davis two-out, two-run homer got the O’s to within 3-2, but White Sox closer Jake Petricka struck out Travis Snider to close out the game and record his first save.

Chris Sale (4-2) got the win, striking out 12 Orioles in seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing four hits and issuing no walks.

UVA alum Tyler Wilson (1-1) lost in his first career MLB start, giving up two runs on five hits in six innings of work, with one strikeout and one walk.
