A man walking on Interstate 95 in Henrico County early Friday morning after his vehicle had run out of gas was struck and killed, and Virginia State Police are searching for a suspect vehicle in the hit-and-run.

VSP identified the deceased as Charles Mauck, 39, of Spotsylvania.

According to State Police, Mauck and another occupant of the vehicle that had run out of gas crossed Interstate 95 northbound and began walking along the center median. The two then crossed the center median, and began walking north along Interstate 95 southbound.

As the two were walking along the interstate, Mauck was struck by an unknown vehicle in the area of the 86-mile marker.

The other occupant then pulled him out of the travel lanes into the center median and returned to the vehicle.

There is no description of the striking vehicle at this time.

Anyone travelling along Interstate 95 in the area of the 86-mile marker around 12:30 a.m. Friday who may have seen anything is asked to contact Virginia State Police Division 1 Dispatch at 804-750-8758 or email [email protected].
