Sinkhole repairs will take a few days longer than previously expected on Route 613 (Springhill Road) in Augusta County. The road was closed on Tuesday, June 7 and is now expected to reopen somewhere between Sunday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 14 based on the size of the sinkhole. Earlier projections had the road opening on Friday, June 10.
Once crews began excavating the hole they found the size to be 175 feet long, 18 feet wide, and 16 to 25 feet deep. The excavated sinkhole will be filled with stone and earth material to stabilize the hole.
Route 613 is closed between Route 742 (Lebanon Church Road) and Route 732 (Roman Road).
Detour signs will direct drivers around the work zone site. The detour goes from Route 613 to Route 732 to Route 745 to Route 742 to Route 613.
The sinkhole is located along Route 613 south of Middle River, about 0.1 mile east of Route 742.
