shentelShentel continues to serve the community through its philanthropic initiative, Community Connections Program, as well as its annual Summer Backpack program.

The CCP was established last year and has helped guide Shentel’s philanthropic and volunteer activities throughout the year within the communities Shentel serves. This marks the third year Shentel employees have participated in the Summer Backpack Program; this year a record amount of 2.5 tons of food was collected, up from 1.5 tons in 2015.

The Shentel Summer Backpack Program was established to help support regional food banks in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland that help provide food during the summer to children who are on the free or reduced-price lunch program during the school year.

Shentel now has more than 1,200 employees in the mid-Atlantic since the acquisition of nTelos Wireless earlier this year, and many contributed to the collection. The two-week effort resulted in success; Shentel collected a record amount of goods this year, donating 2.5 tons to regional and local food banks.

“This is one of our favorite initiatives we participate in each year, as it gives us the opportunity to help the children in our communities where we live and work,” said Cindy Rinker, Marketing Supervisor for Shentel, who leads the company’s philanthropic efforts. “We’re proud to have reached a new record this year and hope to continue this momentum for years to come.”
