Dr. Sam Hostetter announced his candidacy for the Waynesboro City Council Ward D seat.
As a resident of the city for the past 13 years, Hostetter has served on the steering committee for the comprehensive city plan, worked with the Boy Scouts, served as the sideline physician for local high school football teams and taught Sunday School.
He has volunteered in the Waynesboro Public Schools and has been engaged in local community events.

“I am running for City Council because my family and I have felt very welcomed in Waynesboro, and I would like a chance to give back. Waynesboro is a friendly community in a beautiful location, and I am convinced that we can use that to our advantage, to continue to make it a superb place to live and work.
“I have three children who have been raised in Waynesboro, one a recent Waynesboro High School graduate, and two more still in the school system. I believe a strong education system is important to the future of every city, and I am committed to making sure the plans for the updates and renovations to WHS stay on track.
“I am concerned about our economic future. We have had significant changes in our tax base over the last several decades, and that has provided challenges. However, I am excited to help Waynesboro step creatively into our future. I know that we will be faced with some hard decisions, but I plan to listen to the many voices in our community and use those insights to help do what is best for Waynesboro.
“I am discouraged by recent events that have tried to open up racial divides within our city and region, but I am reassured, by the many residents and officials that have called for unity and community building, that hate is not welcome in Waynesboro.
“We are fortunate to live in a beautiful place, and in a city full of potential. If elected to City Council, I will work to help realize that potential in our city and our citizens.”
The election for City Council will take place in May 2018.
