Wake Forest is reportedly set to hire Bowling Green football coach Dave Clawson to replace Jim Grobe, who stepped down last week after a 13-year run that included an appearance in the 2006 Orange Bowl.
Clawson just led Bowling Green to the MAC championship and a 10-3 regular season record. Overall, Clawson is 32-31 in five seasons at Bowling Green.
Grobe announced his resignation after the Demon Deacons stumbled to a 4-8 finish in 2013. He was 77-82 overall at Wake.
Clawson’s previous stops include a year at Tennessee as offensive coordinator in 2008 and a successful run at Richmond that took the Spiders from a 3-8 record in his first season in 2004 to an 11-3 season in 2007 that ended in the FCS national semifinals.
The core of the team that he recruited then went on to win a national championship a year later under Mike London, who guided Richmond to the national quarterfinals in 2009 before getting the head job at Virginia.
Clawson also led a rebuilding project at Fordham from 1999-2003, taking a program that went 0-11 in his first season to a 10-3 mark in 2002 and a 9-3 finish in 2003.
