Fear and Loathing in Waynesboro column by Chris Graham

The Augusta Free Press and The News Virginian have been polling their web readers on the news involving the forced resignation of Waynesboro city manager Doug Walker, and the early returns aren’t looking good for the new conservative majority on Waynesboro City Council.

The News Virginian poll (the link takes you to the front page of the paper’s website; sorry, but it’s the best I can do, given how they have their page set up) has had a bit more activity at the outset, with 89 votes cast as of the writing of this web update to the 30 votes cast in the AFP poll.

(I’m not aware of the rules regarding frequency of voting in the NV poll; the AFP poll limits people to one vote per week.)

Sixty-seven percent of those who have voted in the NV online poll think that the resignation of Walker “is a big mistake for the city.” Twenty-two percent said “it was a long time coming.”

The raw numbers for the two answers are 60 and 20, respectively.

My report reflects poll numbers available as of 5:50 p.m. today.

People voting in the AFP online poll have almost all agreed with their unfavorable view of the handling of the departure of Walker by the new conservative majority on city council. Twenty-nine of the 30 people who have voted in the poll have said they do not have a favorable view of the majority’s actions relative to the resignation of Walker.
