One dead in single-vehicle crash in Augusta County

policeVirginia State Police Trooper A.J. Garasimowicz is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred Monday at 9 p.m. on Route 654 at U.S. Highway 11.

A 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling west on Route 654 when it failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection with Highway 11. The Nissan continued all the way across Highway 11, ran off the road, struck an embankment, and then struck several trees before finally coming to a stop in a field.

The driver, Ammal Yousef Hameidan, 39, of Staunton, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
